Last week, Bob received his CBE from the Princess Royal marking his remarkable service and dedication to political and public service. A statement from Bob Blackman CBE reads as:
I am humbled and grateful to have received a C.B.E. This comes after 38 years continuous service in elected office: starting as a local Councillor in Brent, then as an Assembly Member for Brent and Harrow on the GLA, to now serving as the Member of Parliament for Harrow East for the last 13 years. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this time.
I am incredibly proud to have served thousands of constituents and delighted to have two Private Members' Bills to my name. My first, the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, served as the biggest change to the rights of homeless people in England for 40 years, ensuring local authorities had a statutory duty to prevent and relieve homelessness. My second, the Supported Housing (Regulatory Oversight) Bill, introduces appropriate regulation in the Supported Housing sector, protecting vulnerable tenants and rooting out the rogue landlords who have entered the sector. This Bill has successfully passed all stages in Parliament and is now awaiting Royal Assent from His Majesty The King before becoming an Act of Parliament.
