As many will know, the do-nothing-Mayor of London is planning to expand the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) across all London boroughs from 29th August 2023, which includes Harrow.
To raise your outrage about the expansion, there are many different actions YOU can take:
- Bob is running a poll on the Mayor's ULEZ expansion, which you can participate in here or below.
- You may wish to sign the petition to stop Khan’s ULEZ expansion, which you can find here.
- You can email the Mayor with your views at [email protected] or email Bob and he will forward your comments to him.
- You can also join AND share the 'Harrow Say No to the ULEZ Expansion' Facebook Group
The Story So Far:
The ULEZ expansion shows a complete disregard for the views of Londoners, as 66% of responses to the consultation on the ULEZ expansion, voted against these ill thought-out and unnecessary proposals and it has been discovered that the difference the expansion would make to air quality is negligible.
A formal complaint has also been made regarding the Mayor’s behaviour. This comes after shocking allegations emerged in The Telegraph (https://bit.ly/3ITd9rO) that over 200 pages of internal emails and documents suggest that Sadiq Khan made false and dishonest statements to the London Assembly and manipulated the ULEZ consultation results by improperly excluding thousands of responses. London Assembly Member, Nick Rodgers AM has made a formal complaint to the GLA Monitoring Officer, who is expected to investigate the Mayor for multiple code of conduct breaches.
The GLA Conservative Group tabled a motion to halt the expansion, however, sadly, this was defeated. You can see who voted and which way here. It is also worth noting that our Labour Assembly Member from Brent and Harrow, Krupesh Hirani, voted against the motion so clearly he supports the expansion to Harrow, against the wishes of his constituents!
Four Labour MPs - Seema Malhotra, Jon Cruddas, Siobhain McDonagh and Abena Oppong-Asar - have also vocally opposed the ULEZ expansion, citing concerns with the impact that the expansion will have on residents, small businesses and our most vulnerable. This shows that this is not a party political issue, but rather 'dictator Khan' pushing his unwelcome agenda onto Londoners!
Bob is pleased to report that Harrow, Bexley, Bromley & Hillingdon Councils have refused to sign the agreement to allow TfL to install cameras, signs and other monitoring equipment and interestingly, there is no obligation on local authorities outside the GLA area to provide access to signage.
Harrow Council, along with Bexley, Bromley, Hillingdon and Surrey County Council, have launched a judicial review to challenge Transport for London (TfL) and the Mayor of London’s decision to expand ULEZ to outer London boroughs. These Councils are challenging the expansion in the High Court on five grounds, which you can read more about here.
Bob has continuously raised his outrage about this scandalous expansion in Parliament (WATCH HERE, WATCH HERE), and will continue to raise his disappointment and anger about this decision in any way that he can.
