Bob asked the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Will Qunice whether, given that an estimated 125,000 people are now in rent arrears, any steps could be taken to ensure that welfare benefit payments for rent are paid directly to landlords. Bob stated that this would help prevent spiralling debt and help avoid tenants falling into unpayable rent arrears.
